The Domino Effect: This Editor’s Bedroom Played Host to a Series of Design Trends

February 9, 2021

Throughout her years as Style Director for Domino magazine, the hustle and bustle within the Upper West Side bedroom of Schumacher Creative Director Dara Caponigro was comparable to that of Grand Central. A swarm of photographers, stylists and editors flitted in and out on the regular, using the pre-war space as the set for various photoshoots that captured the latest in decorating trends. Whether swathed in sweeping boughs of blooming roses or decked out in romantic, soothing shades of gray and cream, the bedroom remained both a sophisticated refuge and an editor’s dream play space.

For the cover shoot of the July/August 2006 issue, Dara and crew changed her bed curtains to a preppy brown and white trellis to channel David Hicks and added some poppy orange table lamps for some pizzazz.Simon Upton
For a Bring it Back floral chintz story in the August 2007 issue, Caponigro along with Tori Mellott (also now at Schumacher) kept Dara’s cream linen bed curtains but faked an upholstered wall behind the bed in a voluptuous fabric of blooming roses.Max Kim-Bee
