Charlap Hyman & Herrero’s New Rug Collection Shoots for the Stars

Their first foray into color with Patterson Flynn is filled with celestial inspiration.

August 16, 2023

Taking cues from surrealism, astrology, and the great French and Italian designers of the early 20th century, creative polyglots Adam Charlap Hyman and Andre Herrero (the duo behind Charlap Hyman & Herrero) and artist Pilar Almon are dialing up the whimsy for their latest collaboration with Patterson Flynn. Named “21” in a nod to Madeleine Castaing’s Paris shop address (21 rue Bonaparte), the collection “is a little bit trompe l’oeil, a little bit 1930s Italian, with a connection to celestial symbology,” says Charlap Hyman. “We haven’t designed rugs in color before now—it was a fun new place to explore.”

Sumptuous hand-knotted wool and silk are transformed into a work of art in the hands of Charlap Hyman & Herrero and Pilar Almon. Their Grace rug, adorned with the phases of the moon, was inspired by a favorite Gio Ponti–designed building in Milan.

Explore the home that has become an incubator for Charlap Hyman and Almon’s playful and dynamic collections for Schumacher and Patterson Flynn.
