WHEN I WAS WRITING MY BOOK, Glorious Gardens: Private Edens of the World’s Leading Interior Designers (Monacelli), it occurred to me that every beautiful garden needs places and perches from which to enjoy it. While benches and sofas are wonderful, for me, the ultimate embodiment of truly relaxing outdoors is a chaise lounge. Some things to consider: Do you want wheels to make it easy to move around the yard, pool deck, or terrace? Do you prefer cushions (make sure to invest in weather-resistant fabric) or a simple mesh sling? And if you’ll be storing it outside in the off season, a weatherproof cover is always a good idea.
