With a flair for the theatrical and a hint of the surreal, designers are reimagining fireplace mantels in novel ways, with plaster as their medium of choice. These visionary examples transcend the trope of fireplace as focal point to become true pièces de résistance—a trend we hope will catch fire.
In their total transformation of this 1926 hôtel particulier in Montmartre, Claves cofounders Laure Gravier and Soizic Fougeront captured the movement of flowing fabric to create a luxe bedroom hearth.
