AT RECENT DESIGN FAIRS FROM COPENHAGEN TO MILAN, WE FOUND OUR SPIRITS LIFTED BY A FRESH-FEELING APPROACH TO COLOR AND FORM. GRAPHIC BUT NOT BUSY, BOLD YET STREAMLINED, INSPIRED BY THE PAST (ART DECO, ’60S MOD, MEMPHIS) WITHOUT BEING RETRO, IT INSPIRES A DYNAMISM—AND OPTIMISM—THAT WE’RE EAGER TO EMBRACE.
Visit
Intrigued by peppy pattern but not ready to commit to an all-out color-drenched scheme at home? A weekend jaunt to one of these dopamine-infused destinations might be just what the doctor ordered.
Casa Salvati
Designed in 1972 by Milanese architects Alberto Salvati and Ambrogio Tresoldi, Casa Salvati in Gardone Riviera, Italy, underwent a full restoration in 2019 and is now available as a one-of-a-kind holiday rental.
Villa Cavrois
Architect Robert Mallet-Stevens envisioned Villa Cavrois, the home he designed for a French businessman near Lille in 1932, as a “total work of art,” infusing every inch—from windows to walls to furniture—with a colorful Modernist sensibility.
Hotel Regina
For a luxury resort built in the height of Belle Époque style, the 120-year-old Hotel Regina in Biarritz couldn’t feel less uptight—thanks in large part to a revamp by designer Dorothée Meilichzon, who reimagined the property’s 27 guest rooms with bold, geometric forms in ocean-inspired hues and playfully nautical nods.
Accessorize
These design-forward accents are the perfect way to experiment with vibrant forms, luminous geometries, and playful pattern. From surprising new light forms to colorful glassware, they’re sure to brighten your room—and your mood.
Decorate
A graphic fabric or wallpaper can define a room, whether used in small doses or deployed in bold swaths. Like works of modern art, these dynamic stripes, symbols, dashes, and dots do more than simply toe the line.

KEVIN KERRFurnish
Whether you’re a minimalist or a maximalist, wake up your interiors with a surprising, modern jolt of color and form. Just one piece in an unexpected silhouette, vivid color clash, or rhythmic pattern can re-energize a room.
Wear
The fall runways shed new light on classic motifs, from chopped-up checks to plush polka dots. The effect, surprisingly, was more polished than preschool, thanks to fluid tailoring, elegantly draped accents, and nuanced hues.
