Jonathan Simkhai’s roots in fashion run deep: In 1970s Iran, his grandfather owned a lace mill; today, those intricate patterns and attention to craft are a narrative thread that runs through his own designs. He freely mixes men’s tailoring with feminine detailing and modern silhouettes with hints of nostalgia (his spring collection was inspired by a silk flower from his mother’s wedding gown). When he won a CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund award in 2015, his business took off, making fans of everyone from Michelle Obama to Taylor Swift.
