I’VE never considered aluminum to be a particularly chic material. In my mind, the word generally conjured cheap serveware and outdoor furniture. But recently at 3 Days of Design in Copenhagen, designers seemed to be particularly taken with the humble material—aluminum was everywhere! Lightweight, economical, and recyclable, it’s smart-looking in both polished and brushed finishes, and—as evidenced by the pieces below—can take on surprisingly sophisticated forms.
The JG Coffee Table, designed by Jørgen Gammelgaard in 1962 and introduced in 1973, features a sculptural brushed-aluminum base.
