As the co-creative director of both storied design house Oscar de la Renta and her own luxury label, Monse, Seoul-born Laura Kim knows a thing or two about the balancing act that being a full-fledged creative in New York requires. In her (very limited) downtime, she strikes an exuberant equilibrium, whether she’s quietly cooking at home or avidly entertaining. Now, she’s channeled her signature playful energy into the world of interiors, with a new collection of tabletop goods and kitchenware for Crate & Barrel. We caught up with the boundless tastemaker to find out what else elevates her every day.

  • “This stained-glass Oscar de la Renta gown was inspired by Art Nouveau and Louis Comfort Tiffany windows. To be honest, I wasn’t really expecting it to work, but it came out amazing—I’m so proud of my team. And you can check your makeup in the reflection!” Art Nouveau Tea-Length Dress by Oscar de la Renta, price upon request, oscardelarenta.com

  • “We partnered with Panasonic for Monse’s Fall 2024 show; this dress was created from the same sustainable denim fabric that we used for a limited-edition bag that comes with their compact hair dryer. It’s my favorite look from the collection.” Denim Boxy Dress by Monse, $890, monse.com

Laura Kim’s Favorite Things

  • Hästens Excel Bed

“It is so comfortable. The only negative thing is that I’ve been going to Italy for work for 20 years and would stay at the same hotel every time with no problem sleeping there. Now that I have a Hästens at home, I can’t sleep when I travel! I come back to New York looking like a ghost.”

    From $6,990, hastens.com

  • Cowry Sapphire Necklace by Dezso by Sara Beltrán

“Sara Beltrán is someone I’ve been following for a long time. I love her aesthetic of ‘it’s casual but the price tag is not.’ I don’t want to wear an obvious diamond necklace—this one is subtle, but it’s so special and in really good taste.”

    $40,000, dezsosara.com

  • Burgundy Glass by Zalto

“I love the simplicity of these wine glasses and how thin they are.”

    $58, zalto.shop

  • Scallop Eyelet Colanders by Laura Kim for Crate & Barrel

“We designed the berry bowl to look like eyelet, my favorite summer fabric!”

    From $13, crateandbarrel.com

  • Bare My Soul Nail Lacquer by OPI

“When you wear bright clothes, you don’t want your nails to fight it, so I like to keep things neutral.”

    $12, opi.com

  • Ruinart Brut Blanc de Blancs Champagne

“It’s my favorite champagne—and I recently found out it’s sustainable.”

    $115, wine.com

  • Handpainted Tiles by BDDW

“From afar, these tiles look very classic, but close up, some of the illustrations are actually very funny—and even a little bit risqué. Hopefully I’ll have them in my bathroom after our gut renovation.”

    Price upon request, bddw.com

  • "Untitled" by Dee Clements of Studio Herron

“I’m amazed by the craftsmanship in this basket—it’s almost like a really good sweater. It looks so free but still controlled.”

    Price upon request, ninajohnson.com
