Lisa Walsh was initially drawn to Morocco as a fine art photographer. “I fell in love with the country and its culture,” recalls the Miami native. Soon enough she was traveling there on a near-monthly basis, and began forging relationships with a network of makers and artisans. “I would bring back these beautiful Moroccan coats and hand-embroidered pieces, and people were always asking me where they could buy them,” she recalls.
In 2019, Lisa and her daughter Lauren launched Tighemi, a brick-and-mortar store in Miami’s Design District, to bring their Moroccan savoir-faire to the American market. Every piece in the shop is hand-selected by the duo and ranges from caftans, leather accessories, and jewelry to the brand’s newest extension, Tighemi Concept, which specializes in ceramics furniture, rugs, and art made by Morocco’s leading creatives. “Our focus is on pieces that celebrate traditional craftsmanship but can be easily incorporated into modern living,” Lisa says.
