For Washington D.C.-based architect Christian Zapatka, form and function are the hallmarks of great design. And these elements were his guiding light when he began reimagining the first floor of his clients’ Victorian row house in Georgetown. Working closely with the Waterworks Kitchens team, he landed on subtle sage green cabinets and unlacquered brass hardware, and maximized every nook, cranny, and corner in this tiny space in order to deliver an inviting yet highly efficient open concept kitchen and family room.

Colorful appliances or stainless steel? Having a colored range can be beautiful.
Classic subway or patterned backsplash? Stone slab.
Waterfall edge or traditional edge countertop? Regular, no icebergs.
Apron or undermount sink? I only use aprons only in the country.
Brass or nickel hardware? Polished nickel or un-lacquered brass.
Open shelves or cabinets? Open stone shelves or cabinets that start at counter surface English pantry style.
