From Dara’s Desk: The Importance of Home

March 19, 2020
Schumacher’s Creative Director, Dara Caponigro, opens up about feathering her nest and making the best of a challenging situation with those she holds dear.
March has put into perspective what’s really important in life. I’ve been spending time at home with my family and even though we have been driving each other crazy, it’s been the silver lining to all that’s been happening in the world and it’s reminded me to cherish them. I’ve been nesting—probably like so many of us—cooking, baking, cleaning, organizing and decorating, of course—and have come up with one large to-do list.
On top of it is our bedding collection that we brought out with the Matouks. Like Schumacher, Matouk is a family-owned company (George and Mindy are the best!) who’ve got the kind of values that are important to me. I don’t know what it’s like for you, but I have a rule: I can only bring something into my house if it has good energy. Knowing the Matouks, I’m all set on that front! Plus, the bedding is so incredibly beautiful and well-made that I couldn’t be prouder of it. Seeing beautiful things always heartens me because it means someone took the time and care to make the world a special place. I hope it does the same for you. Wishing you and your loved ones health and safety.

When I dreamed up our New Traditional collection with Pam Marshall, our VP of Design, we set out to design a collection that was quietly reassuring—traditional but casual and not stuck in the past. I hope you find it just right.
Elizia Ikat:  A true hand-made warp print that’s handsome but pretty, colorful but not too bright, interesting but not too loud.
